Mark Taylor Oval at Waitara Park is officially open, delivered for Hornsby Shire Council, the Northern District Cricket Club and Cricket NSW. We are delighted to have completed the redevelopment works for our clients, and to be returning the space to the Waitara community and local sporting groups.
Construction work included the removal of existing vegetation and resurfacing of the oval. Sub surface irrigation and drainage was installed, designed to provide an all-weather playing surface, reducing water run-off and ensuring more efficient water usage. New retaining walls were constructed, picket fencing and ball netting installed, all of which now line the perimeter of the oval.
Our construction team faced significant challenges during the project, with the compounding impact of COVID and this year’s record levels of rain. To address the unprecedented levels of rainfall and consequent topsoil that was too wet to be graded, our team explored methods of speeding up the drying process with Council. Continuous turning of the topsoil mounds paired with the addition of free draining material to the soil enabled our construction team to push ahead with the project delivery.
Mark Taylor Oval and Waitara Park are important green spaces for the wider Waitara community. With the project now complete, the Waitara community have a resilient playing surface with the foundations laid for improved playability and natural drainage capability.
